Description
The SWAT-T Tourniquet is a versatile tourniquet that is effective and easy to use.
SWAT-T, standing for "Stretch, Wrap and Tuck" was designed by H&H Medical and Safeguard Medical as a revolutionary multipurpose dressing that has been specifically designed to meet the needs of both military and civilians. As its name suggests, the SWAT-Tourniquet employs the Stretch, Wrap, and Tuck method, making it a highly versatile tool in the field.
The importance of this tourniquet cannot be overstated, as extremity bleeding is a common cause of preventable deaths in high-risk operational environments, accounting for two-thirds of fatalities. However, the SWAT-Tourniquet provides a fast and effective solution for controlling bleeding, even in the most difficult-to-reach areas such as the groin and axilla.
Features
- Multi-function design
- Decreased costs
- Decreased weight
- Ease of use (decreasing necessary training)
- Durability
- Superior performance
- Training devices are reusable unless soiled or damaged
- Pediatric & Canine - proven effective for small limbs
One of the biggest advantages of this tourniquet is its ease of use. It can be applied in a matter of seconds, even by individuals with no prior training, making it an ideal tool for tactical operators. In addition, it is both cost-effective and lightweight, costing only a fraction of other tourniquets used in combat.
Unlike other tourniquets which are single-use, the SWAT-T stands out for its durability and versatility, crucial traits in demanding operational environments. Rigorously tested for both advanced age and extreme temperatures, the SWAT-T proves itself as a reliable tourniquet.
When it comes to severe arterial bleeding where saving a life is paramount, applying a tourniquet is imperative. Studies show that, when used correctly, tourniquets are generally safe for at least two hours, and in some cases up to six hours, without adverse effects. While there is a potential risk of limb loss, it's a necessary trade-off to ensure our patients return home safely.
As a pressure dressing, the SWAT-T excels in controlling hemorrhage and managing venous and capillary oozing. After placing a sterile dressing (or standard gauze), wrap the SWAT-T around the affected area, securing the end with a tuck or tape. This maintains consistent pressure on the wound, preventing further contamination and re-bleeding. However, if the dressing meets its endpoints, it may have functioned as a tourniquet, and it's crucial to check for proper blood flow in the extremity to avoid potential complications. Leave pressure dressings in place until definitive wound care can be administered.
For elastic bandage applications, the SWAT-T is a versatile tool. It can secure ice packs for sprains and strains, stabilize twisted joints, or create a sling for a shoulder injury. Additionally, it can be loosely applied to exert pressure across the chest or abdomen, aiding in wound closure, containing abdominal organs in cases of evisceration, or supporting pelvic stability in cases of blunt pelvic trauma. In cases of immobilization, the SWAT-T can be employed to splint an extremity to the body, the other leg, or a rigid object.
