XShear makes heavy-duty trauma shears for cutting away clothing and gear to expose an injury. Created in 2016 by an EMT who was frustrated with shears that bent or wore out, and designed in Michigan, XShear built a tougher tool for first responders, tactical medics, and prepared civilians. Exposing a wound quickly is a basic step in trauma care, and a shear that fails at that job costs time.

What separates XShear from ordinary bandage scissors is blade mass and geometry. The blades are roughly twice as thick as standard trauma shears and sharpened to a fine edge, so they cut heavy denim, leather boots, turnout gear, and seatbelt-weight webbing without folding over or stalling. A patented blunt tip and curved blade let the shear slide along skin without cutting the patient, and a heavy center bolt keeps the pivot from loosening with use. Because they have no springs or internal hinges to trap blood, they are also easier to clean between uses.
