The Combat Application Tourniquet (CAT) Gen 7, a one-handed military tourniquet with a patented design proven 100% effective by the U.S. Army’s Institute of Surgical Research. Rigorous testing has demonstrated the C-A-T®'s ability to completely stop blood flow in the event of a traumatic wound with significant hemorrhage.
The North American Rescue CAT Tourniquet utilizes a durable windlass system with a patented free-moving internal band providing true circumferential pressure to the extremity. Once adequately tightened, bleeding will cease, and the windlass is locked into place. A hook and loop windlass retention strap is then applied, securing the windlass to maintain pressure during casualty evacuation. The C-A-T®’s unique dual securing system avoids the use of screws and clips which can become difficult to operate under survival stress or where fine motor skills are compromised.
The patented Combat Application Tourniquet® (C-A-T®) featuring the proprietary red tip design and the mechanical advantage of a band within a band has been the Official Tourniquet of the U.S. Army since 2005. The innovations in the C-A-T® are protected by U.S. Patent Nos. 7,842,067 and 7,892,253.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. Place the wounded limb through the loop of the band and secure the tourniquet 2-3 inches above the bleeding area, ensuring direct contact with the skin.
2. Tightly pull the band and secure it around the limb, ensuring it doesn't cover the rod clips. The band should be snug, preventing the tips of three fingers from sliding between the band and the limb. If fingers can slide under the band, readjust and secure it tighter.
3. Continue to twist the rod until the bleeding has stopped
4. Fasten the rod securely within a clip to immobilize it. Check for any signs of bleeding and assess the distal pulse. If bleeding persists or if the distal pulse is detectable, contemplate tightening further or applying a second tourniquet above and parallel to the first. Reevaluate the situation afterward.
5. Thread the band between the clips and over the rod. Fasten the rod and band using the TIME strap. Make sure to note the time of application for record-keeping purposes.
