Rescue and utility tools handle the small jobs that come up during a shift, from cutting a seat belt to breaking a window to opening a locked interior door. The category covers compact tools made to be carried on a duty belt, vest, or in a pocket, including rescue tools and utility tools like shears and multitools. Patrol officers, corrections staff, and security professionals all rely on rescue and utility tools for their jobs.

Options include seatbelt cutters, window breakers, rescue hook tools, shears, multitools, door picks, and more from top brands like Benchmade and ZAK Tools. Some tools combine functions, such as a rescue hook with a glass breaker or a multitool with a strap cutter.

Each tool covers a different task. Seat belt cutters and rescue hooks cut belts and straps. Window breakers use a hardened tip to shatter side glass, and spring-loaded versions release when pressed against the window. Shears cut through clothing and straps, multitools cover small repairs and everyday tasks, and door picks like the shove knife can open some interior door locks without damaging the door. Choose based on the job, how the tool will be carried, and whether it can be used with one hand.

Pair these tools with breaching tools for forced entry and trauma kits for injuries on scene. See more duty equipment for the rest of the setup.
